ILC Mission is
  • Help students understand English and speak English more clearly.
  • Share the love of God and what He means to us.
  • Impact world relations as we build relationships with students who will become leaders in their countries.
The International Learning Center of Parkview Baptist Church is a literacy school teaching English to speakers of other languages (ESL).  Our school was established in 1976.   Our student body is varied.  We have students who are doctors, chemist, pharmacists and professors; however we also have students who have little education in their native language.  Our students are young adults to senior adults.  We welcome all regardless of age or nationality.

Awards Received

International Learning Center Receives 2011 Best of Gainesville Award for the fourth year; U.S. Local Business Association’s Award Plaque Honors the Achievement

NEW YORK, NY, September 5, 2011 -- International Learning Center has been selected for the 2011 Best of Gainesville Award in the Religious Organizations category by the U.S. Commerce Association (USCA).

The USCA "Best of Local Business" Award Program recognizes outstanding local businesses throughout the country. Each year, the USCA identifies companies that they believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small business through service to their customers and community.

This is the first year that a business has qualified as a Four-Time Award Winner. Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2011 USCA Award Program focuses on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the USCA and data provided by third parties.

Students Thankful for International Learning Center

January 2008

A former student from the 2006-07 school year recently contacted us to inform us of his new job.  After leaving us, he passed his pharmaceutical licensing exams.  But that was not his most exciting news.  He was now employed at CVS in Ocala as a pharmacist.  The company interviewed him over the telephone.  He thanked the ILC and his teacher Joan for teaching him how to speak and listen.  “Without the conversational english classes I would never have been offered the job!  Speaking on the telephone is the hardest place to be understood.”

December 2008

Dr. Kim a former student from Korea emailed me recently.

"I will post a want ad again in UF korean student website.

I will tell them how much I received from ILC and how much my english has improved

thanks to the devotive teachers in ILC.

From Dec 16th to yesterday, (Dec 21) I have been in Philippines to attend a international conference to have a presentation about some results of my work. It was held right down Manila, Cavite university.

The confernece was successful to me. I was pleased that attendents were

paying much more attention to my presentation than other presentations.

Some scholars there praised my english presentation^^.

This all is thanks to you and wondereful teachers in ILC.

In my being in ILC, some students said they wanted to improve their English for internation meetings or conferences. Please tell them about my success story

and the truth that success in english is strongly related with ILC.

But the biggest success is the truth that I could come closer to Jesus

through YOU, MaryLynne my friend.”

November 2009

One of our Chinese students has returned from China.  She witnessed to many people while she was in China and asks for our prayers for them.  She said that her 5-year-old son kept her strong for the Lord when he refused to bow down to a statue. I am quoting from her email:

In China, I tried to share gospel to many people like bank clerks, physicians, taxi drivers by giving them gospel handouts which I bought in USA. Also I bought lots of books and gifts from Christian bookstores in Hangzhou and Shanghai for my friends and family members.

At the end, we took my friend to a Bible study and my cousin to a worship and thank God my cousin Bin did Conversion Prayer / sinner pray after the service. I was so happy. Actually I didn't plan to ask him to do it, but some sisters strongly encouraged me to ask him if he wants. And he said YES, I can't even believe it.  Lately, he said in the email that he and his girlfriend are reading the book Five Languages of Love. He gets more encouragement and wisdom from the Bible I gave to him. I am so happy.

One thing I have to highlight here, maybe some of you already known, is about my son. He refused to bow to the idol during a Chinese traditional ceremony after I told him that Jesus doesn't like us to do it. He actually helped me to stand firm and strong in the faith. God must be very glad to see it.

January 2010

As we celebrated both Thanksgiving and Christmas, we were able to share many times what the gift of Jesus Christ means to us.  At our Christmas Brunch I shared through the Nativity display that Jesus was the greatest gift to us.  He came as a baby from God to each of us.  Our celebration of giving gifts at Christmas is just an extention of what God did for us.  We finished the devotional time with a Jesus birthday cake.  In January I received a letter from Dr Namyong Kim from Korea.  He sent me a picture of Jesus birthday cake that they had shared in their home in Korea this Christmas.  Dr Kim’s birthday is December 24 but they could only afford one birthday cake so it was for baby Jesus.  The Word of God continues in their home two years after leaving the United States.

February 2010

I just want to let you know that I started to substitute teach in Alachua County Public Schools since last Tuesday. My work days are Tue. Wed and Thurs. So far I worked 4 out of 6 days. And all the assignments are pretty easy for most of the times I worked as a teacher assistant. It gave me more time to prepare and "buffer". Praise God!!

Thank you for writing me the reference letters or helping me revise the resume. Thank you for your support!

May 2010

Dear Mary Lynne,

I am writing you for my gratitude for our school International Learning Center. I currently got a job as a secondary math teacher at Cornerstone Academy which is a classic Christian school. You don't know how much our school helped me to get this job.

First, my English improved dramatically as I continuously attending this school whenever I am available for several years. The teachers here are just amazing, they encourage me all the time, they are always ready to answer all my questions about pronunciations, words' meanings, culture confusions, daily life issues. They all have a heart of internationals.

Second, Besides English, I learned a lot about other countries through making friends coming from all over the world. Since we know better about each other, we understand better, the friendship coming along builds us a peace of the whole world in our hearts.

Third, our nursery workers are so gracious. The main workers are ladies over 80 at your grandmas' age. I don't need to go anywhere else to find L O V E love.

Thank you so much for being a director of our school and thank you for recruiting so many wonderful teachers and workers for this school. God bless!

The International Learning Center Is a Place to Make Friends for Eternity

Bob Crane (member, Alachua, First Church) has been a volunteer teacher at our International Learning Center for more than seven years and has made many international friends there. Recently two of his former students, Abelardo and Milagros, and their sons stopped by to visit Bob on their way to Disney World. In the five years since Bob had seen them, the family returned to Peru but Abelardo was without work for almost eighteen months and Milargo became pregnant but lost her baby. They were able to overcome these difficulties, they told Bob, in part because their Christian faith had been made stronger in their time as students at the ILC. So, they are very thankful for their experience as students at the ILC where they heard the gospel and were encouraged as Christians. Praise the Lord!

More Friends at the ILC

Mary Lynne Moore, director of the ILC, recently met Thuvan and her daughter at Publix. She was a student of Pat Rayos (far left; member, New Hope Church) for 1 ½ years and is from Vietnam. Mary Lynne gives a lanyard with a name tag attached to all students and teachers to help them identify one another at the school. Although Thuvan finished learning at the ILC over a year ago, she is still wearing her official ILC lanyard with her keys and i.d. tag attached, even at Publix!

Now, that shows how much our students love the ILC. Mary Lynne says that Thuvan was so excited to see her and, especially, her teacher that she jumped up and down while she was hugging them. The ILC is certainly building great relationships. (Mary Jayne Orr (member, Country Crossroads Church), another volunteer with the ILC, is at the far right.)
